The BWC 1500 is a modern 3 meter diameter (10 ft),
1,500 Watt wind turbine designed for high reliability, low maintenance,
and automatic operation in adverse weather conditions. It is available
in both battery charging and water pumping versions. It is built much more ruggedly than
most other turbines of its size and it carries the longest warranty (5 years) in the
industry.
Battery charging BWC 1500's can be supplied with outputs of 12, 24, 48, or 120 VDC. They
are well suited for rural homes, cabins, remote villages, and telecommunications sites,
where it can typically support continuous loads of 150 - 300 Watts. The BWC 1500 is often
installed along with PV modules. The BWC VCS-1.5 controller features the OptiCharge system
for extended battery life.
As a water pumping system, the BWC 1500 can be located as much as 300 m (1000 ft) from the
well to take advantage of improved wind conditions. USDA tests have shown that the BWC
1500-PD can be more cost effective than a conventional mechanical windmill. In many
situations it is two or three times as cost effective as PV-powered pump systems.
Prices, which include electronics, range from $4,700 to $5,400. For severe sites, an
Extra-Stiff blade option is available for an additional $265.
The BWC 1500 is most often installed on a guyed lattice tower, which is available in
heights of 12.2 m (40 ft) to 37 m (120 ft.). Prices range from $1,500 to $3,900. A list of
